Amanda was diagnosed with scoliosis at age 8 and spent much of her childhood in a brace before ultimately undergoing spinal fusion surgery in 2017. Her surgeon, Dr. Shufflebarger, had a profound impact on her journey and remains her greatest inspiration in pursuing a career in medicine and patient care.

She is currently a Master’s student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a graduate of Boston University, where she studied Biomedical Engineering. Alongside her hospital-based research in both transplant and orthopedics, she founded the Setting Scoliosis Straight Patient Research Advisory Committee (PRAC) in 2024 to elevate patient-centered care and education. She now serves as Chair, leading efforts to amplify patient voices and bridge the gap between research and lived experience. She also contributes to Setting Scoliosis Straight podcasts and webinars, where she shares her personal experience and research insights with patients and families.

Through her work, she is committed to improving outcomes for scoliosis patients and supporting families navigating similar journeys.
